
A modern industrial monitor is a key HMI (Human Machine Interface) in production lines, kiosks, EV charging stations and medical equipment. A dirty screen not only looks bad, it can also reduce readability, touch accuracy and even shorten the lifetime of the device.

1. Know Your Industrial Monitor Surface
Before cleaning, it helps to know what kind of front surface your monitor uses:
- Tempered glass – common on rugged industrial monitors, usually tolerant of mild alcohol–water mixtures.
- AG / AR / AF coated glass – anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint coatings can be damaged by strong chemicals or abrasives.
- Plastic cover lens or protective film – softer and easier to scratch, needs very gentle cleaning.
- Sealed IP65 or higher front – resists water and dust, but liquid should still not be forced into edges or connectors.
If possible, check the datasheet or cleaning guideline from your industrial monitor supplier. When you are not sure, always choose the mildest method.
2. Safety Steps Before Cleaning
- Power off the industrial monitor and, if possible, disconnect the power source.
- Unplug signal cables only when it is safe for the system.
- Let the screen cool down if it has been running for a long time.
- Wear clean gloves and make sure there is no risk of liquid dripping into live electrical panels.
3. Recommended Tools and Cleaning Liquids
3.1 Tools
- Soft, lint-free microfiber cloths (must, not optional).
- Optional anti-static wipes made for electronic displays.
- A soft brush or low-pressure air blower to remove dust from bezels and edges.
3.2 Suitable cleaning liquids
- Distilled or deionized water – safest choice for light dust and fingerprints.
- A mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol (IPA, up to about 70%), applied to the cloth, not directly to the industrial monitor.
- Manufacturer-approved screen cleaners or disinfectant wipes that are free of ammonia and strong solvents.
3.3 Liquids to avoid
- Household glass cleaners with ammonia.
- Strong solvents: acetone, benzene, thinner and similar chemicals.
- Highly concentrated alcohol unless your supplier confirms it is safe.
- Abrasive powders or rough pads that can scratch the surface.
4. Step-by-Step Cleaning Procedure
Step 1 – Remove dry dust
- Gently wipe the screen with a dry microfiber cloth to remove loose dust.
- Use a soft brush or air blower to clean edges, corners and seal grooves.
Step 2 – Prepare the cloth
- Lightly dampen a clean microfiber cloth with your chosen cleaning liquid.
- Do not spray liquid directly on the industrial monitor.
- The cloth should be damp, not dripping.
Step 3 – Wipe the touch screen
